THE fiercest rivalry in Australian sport enters a bold new era as new-look NSW and Queensland sides engage in this year’s Origin series.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Wednesday night’s opener in Melbourne.

The brutal three game series gets underway in neutral territory when the two sides line-up at the MCG on Wednesday evening.

It will mark the fifth time an Origin game has taken place at the MCG with NSW winning the past encounter 26-18 and taking their advantage at the ground to 3-1.

Origin I: 8pm (AEST) on Wednesday June 6, MCG

The series will then shift back to NSW for the second clash where, despite being in enemy territory, Queensland have won two of the past three encounters.

Origin II: 7.40pm on Sunday June 24, ANZ Stadium

Fans will then be hoping the third and final contest isn’t a dead-rubber and the series goes down to the wire when the teams line-up in front of a raucous Queensland crowd.

Origin III: 8pm on Wednesday July 11, Suncorp Stadium

Dane Gagai’s injury scare during the Maroons’ final training session almost left the side in crisis mode, thankfully he was cleared and is expected to take his place on the bench.

Billy Slater’s fullback replacement was named with North Queensland Cowboys’ Michael Morgan being handed the role.

The Blues haven’t faced any last minute dilemmas like their rivals have, however whispers are still floating around with a potential last minute line-up change looming.

NSW Blues starters: 1. James Tedesco 2. Josh Addo-Carr 3. Latrell Mitchell 4. James Roberts 5. Tom Trbojevic 6. James Maloney 7. Nathan Cleary 8. David Klemmer 9. Damien Cook 10. Reagan Campbell-Gillard 11. Boyd Cordner 12. Tyson Frizell 13. Jack de Belin

Lewis Hamilton can extend his lead over main rival Sebastian Vettel by winning the 2018 Formula One Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday.

Hamilton’s main focus may not be Vettel—it may be making up for a dismal showing on the Circuit de Monaco last year. He didn’t make it on to the podium in 2017, but Hamilton has won the past two races, setting the pace in both Azerbaijan and Spain.

By contrast, Vettel hasn’t won since the season’s second race in Bahrain. Meanwhile, Valtteri Bottas has driven well lately, only increasing Mercedes’ chances of adding another win.

While Hamilton has powered Mercedes through the past two races, the team hasn’t been without its issues. Among them has been matching the Ferrari vehicles for speed.

The Daily Telegraph‘s Luke Slater noted how Mercedes “have been off the raw pace of Ferrari in three of the first five races but the Scuderia have not converted this advantage into a lead in either of the championships.”

Mercedes’ commanding leads in both the drivers’ and constructor’s standings shows Hamilton and Bottas have been doing what it takes when it matters most during recent races.

Marc Marquez will look to extend his lead at the top of the MotoGP world standing on Sunday in the 2018 Grand Prix of France at Le Mans.

The Spaniard holds a 12-point lead in this year’s championship, and he’s bidding to win his third world title in succession and fifth overall.

Read on for a look at the key riders to watch out for on Sunday, but first here are the details you need to catch the action:

With his victory on home soil last time out in the Spanish Grand Prix, Marquez has now won the last two races and set the fastest lap in each of the last three.

The Flying Frenchman didn’t stop with the pole position, as he also annihilated the rest of the field by smashing the pole record at Le Mans, becoming the first Frenchman to start from the front of the grid on home soil since Christian Sarron in 1988, back when the French round of MotoGP was still contested at Paul Ricard.

The nail-biting session was one of the few times where Marc Marquez has been visibly worried about his lack of pace, even if the Spaniard still delivered a marvelous second place and could realistically maintain a faster pace than Zarco during tomorrow’s race. As it’s been the case in 2018, it was an independent rider and team who rounded up the top three, with Danilo Petrucci with his Alma Pramac Racing Ducati. At the end of the session, the top three riders were separated by less than two-tenths of a second.

Lomachenko vs. Linares Fight Live

Perhaps the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world is ready to take on his next challenge. WBO junior lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko will take on arguably his toughest test to date in the form of WBA and Ring lightweight titleholder Jorge Linares. Lomachenko will be looking to add his third crown in as many divisions in just his 12th professional fight.

The power-punching Lomachenko (10-1, 8 KOs) wowed everyone again in his last fight by making his opponent quit right there in the ring. After overwhelming Guillermo Rigondeaux for six rounds, Rigondeaux called it quits on his stool before the seventh began. While he cited a hand injury, it was clear to everyone watching that he simply wanted no more of one of the most devastating boxers fighting today.

Join Bloody Elbow for live coverage of Saturday night’s Top Rank Boxing on ESPN telecast, as reigning WBO junior lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (10-1, 8 KOs) makes the jump to lightweight to battle WBA champion Jorge Linares, who is in the most lucrative fight of his career, and this will be another defense of his title. Lomachenko is seeking a world championship belt in his third different weight class, something no other boxer has done this quickly (in terms of number of fights).

The quarterfinal round of the Bellator World Heavyweight Grand Prix will come to a close this weekend with Bellator 199 in California on Saturday night. In the final opening round matchup of the tournament that will eventually see a new heavyweight champion crowned, reigning Bellator light heavyweight champion Ryan Bader will begin his quest to earn two championships as he takes on promotion veteran Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal. The winner will move on to the semifinals to face Matt Mitrione who defeated Roy Nelson in February.

Bader (24-5) successfully defended his light heavyweight championship last November at Bellator 186 against Linton Vassell in a second-round TKO win. Prior to that, the former UFC contender Bader made his Bellator debut in June 2017 at Bellator 180 where he captured the 205-pound title from Phil Davis. Lawal (21-6) has not competed inside the cage in over a year since defeating Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at Bellator 175 last March. “King Mo” was scheduled to face Liam McGeary at Bellator 185 last October, but was forced to pull out due to injury.

SHANGHAI (CHN): 9th IAAF Diamond League continues with second leg in Shanghai and some top clashes. Specially in women 200 m and men´s pole vault. Also men´s 110 m hurdles and 100 m are of special interest. Home crowd will also follow women shot put and javelin with the hope for a Chinese win. In total 20 Olympic and World gold medalists are entered.

The second Diamond League Meeting of 2018 has some seriously exciting events. Here’s the previews of the meet, courtesy of EME News. Remember to watch this excellent event on Saturday, May 12!

Arguably, the race of the meeting is the men’s 110m hurdles – an event with a long and rich tradition at the premier Chinese one-day meeting. In a stellar field, which would grace any world or Olympic final, the star attraction is world and Olympic champion Omar McLeod, who is seeking a hat-trick of Diamond League wins in Shanghai.

Nonetheless, the Jamaican hurdle king faces formidable opposition and knows should he put a foot wrong a classy line up of opponents will be certain to pounce, led by 2017 world silver medallist and Diamond League winner Sergey Shubenkov.

Other stellar names on show include: world 110m hurdles record-holder Aries Merritt of the US, Spain’s Olympic silver medallist Orlando Ortega and the Jamaican duo Ronald Levy and Hansle Parchment, who recently finished 1-2 at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

In a meet, which has attracted 20 reigning world and Olympic champions few events can match the men’s 100m for quality. Local attention will be focused on the “dash duo” Su Bingtian, the World Indoor 60m silver medallist and the man who triumphed in this event in Shanghai 12 months ago, and World Indoor 60m fourth-place finisher in Birmingham Xie Zhenye.

The Players Championship 2018 Live

The biggest event between the 2018 Masters and U.S. Open is upon us this week at TPC Sawgrass with The Players Championship. The PGA Tour has spliced together some truly elite groups, and we get to see one of the more intriguing (and recognizable) courses these golfers play all year.

While the festivities are often a bit overwrought, the golf is not. We have gotten top-shelf champ after top-shelf champ over the past decade, including Rickie FowlerTiger Woods and Jason Day, and there’s no reason to think this year will be any different.

The 2018 Players Championship begins on Thursday at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. While it may not be a major yet, the $11 million prize pool—second to only the U.S. Open this year—coupled with the uniqueness of the course draws a prestigious field that is as competitive as any on the PGA Tour. That will be no different this year, which is why oddsmakers have been struggling to find a consistent place for the elite contenders at the top of the odds list. The sportsbooks haven’t been able to settle on one surefire favorite for the tournament in the days leading up to the start of the Players.

Dustin Johnson is the current odds-on favorite with a betting line of +1250 (12.5-1), but Rory McIlroy (+1300) is only a shade back from that. Jordan Spieth isn’t too far behind either, tying with Justin Thomas for the third-best odds at +1400. Jason Day (+1500) and Rickie Fowler (+2000), who finished second at the Masters in early April, round out the top-five. It wouldn’t be surprising in the slightest to see these odds shuffle some more before the tourney tees off Thursday morning.  With that in mind, here’s a look at the full list of odds for the 2018 Players Championship .

West Ham vs. Manchester United Live

Manchester United can get back to winning ways in the Premier League by beating West Ham United at the London Stadium on Thursday.

United have second place all-but sealed, something that will be confirmed if Tottenham Hotspur fail to win on Wednesday night. Yet Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho will be keen to see his team rediscover some form ahead of the FA Cup final against Chelsea, after recent disappointing defeats to West Bromwich Albion and Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Hammers should be in relaxed mood having recently secured their top-flight survival on the watch of former United manager David Moyes. Yet like his United counterpart, Moyes has concerns over key members of his attack.

The London Evening Standard‘s Tom Doyle has noted how star forward Marko Arnautovic “is a doubt,” while ex-United striker Javier Hernandez will be unavailable

Romelu Lukaku is a doubt for the trip to West Ham after being injured from a challenge by Arsenal’s young Greek defender, Konstantinos Mavropanos during Utd’s 2-1 win over Arsenal, according to The Sun.

Alexis Sanchez also didn’t play against Brighton as he was carrying a slight knock but the Chilean should be available again in time to face David Moyes’ side, according to Goal.

Sergio Romero is still a long-term absentee.

Goal also said that Moyes will be hopeful that top scorer Marko Arnautovic will be fit after he was replaced as a precautionary measure during the win at Leicester.

The Sun also report that Javier Hernandez (knee), Michael Antonio, James Collins (both hamstring), Winston Reid (concussion), Pedro Obiang (knee) and Sam Byram (ankle) are all unavailable for the game.

The organizers say ticket sales have reached their planned target of 300,000 even before the tournament opens in Copenhagen and Herning on Friday. And there’s no need to worry about a lack of stars. Although Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are busy with their bid for a Stanley Cup three-peat, some of the sport’s biggest names will be on the ice in Denmark.

Canada will be led by NHL leading scorer Connor McDavid after his Edmonton Oilers didn’t make the playoffs, teammate Leon Draisaitl has joined Germany, and the United States will be captained by Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane.

Here’s a look at the annual tournament that will be played in Denmark for the first time:
The tournament

The event has 16 nations playing in two groups of eight, with the top four in each group advancing to the playoffs.

Olympic champion Austria, defending champion Sweden, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Belarus, Austria, France and Sweden are in Group A. Matches will be played at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen.

Canada, Finland, the United States, Germany, Norway, Latvia, Denmark and South Korea are in Group B. They will play at the Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning.

Captained by McDavid, who just clinched his second consecutive Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s leading scorer with 108 points, Canada is the team to beat at the worlds.

McDavid and Wayne Gretzky are the only two players in NHL history to win the scoring race more than once at 22 years of age or younger.

McDavid will be joined by veteran Buffalo forward Ryan O’Reilly. Both were on the team that won the world title in Austria two years ago.

New York Islanders centre Mathew Barzal, who is among the finalists for the Calder Memorial Trophy for the NHL’s rookie of the year, was also named in the squad.
