The Östersund Arena in Oestersund, Sweden is set to play host to the 17th edition of the World Senior Curling Championships for men and women’s teams, with play getting underway on Saturday 21st April through to Saturday 28th April.

To be eligible to take part in these championships, players “must be not less than 50 years of age by the end of the 30th day of June in the year immediately preceding the year in which the championship is taking place”. Altogether, this event has attracted 16 women’s and 28 men’s national teams.

Round-robin play starts on Saturday 21st April and continues until Thursday 26th April. After that, in the women’s event, the group winners will go on to the semi-finals while the teams that finish second in each group will play the third-placed team from the other group to complete the semi-final line-up.

In the men’s event, the first-placed teams in each group proceed to the quarter-finals, while the second and third-placed teams in each group go into qualification games, with only the winners proceeding to the quarter-finals.

In both men’s and women’s competitions, qualification games and quarter-finals will take place on Friday 27th April, while semi-finals, bronze and gold medal games will be played on Saturday 28th April.

In last year’s event in Lethbridge, Canada, the Swedish men successfully defended their title, beating Canada in the final while Ireland took bronze. In the women’s event, Canada’s women beat Switzerland for gold, with Scotland taking bronze.
